Das Buch enthält die 14 Liedtexte (inklusive Noten) der Lakota CD Wakan Olowan Sacred Songs in Deutsch und Englisch. Die Lakotatexte in diesem Buch wurden so originalgetreu wie möglich übersetzt. Wie bei Fremdsprachen üblich, lassen sich manche Worte oder Redewendungen nicht wortwörtlich ins Deutsche, bzw. ins Englische übertragen.
Wo eine genaue Übersetzung nicht möglich war, wurde sinngemäß übersetzt.

Sometimes it is not possible to translate all words or idioms of a language into another. Wherever a literal translation was impossible, the texts have been transferred
accordingly with the original text.

Das Konjugieren der Verben gehört mit zu den schwierigsten Anforderungen beim Erlernen indianischer Sprachen. Das liegt daran, dass indianische Sprachen, im Gegensatz zu vielen europäischen Sprachen nicht flektierend (beugend) sondern inkorporierend (einverleibend) und agglutinierend (anleimend) strukturiert sind.

Das vorliegende Buch enthält über 100 Lakota-Verben, die im Singular und Plural konjugiert wurden. An Hand dieser Verben bekommt der Lernende einen Eindruck davon, wie facettenreich die Konjugation der Lakota-Verben ist. In manchen Fällen scheint es sogar zwei Konjugationsformen für ein Verb zu geben.

The conjugation of verbs is one of the most complicated challenges in studying Native American languages, due to the fact that these languages, in contrary to many European languages are not flectional, but incorporative and agglutinative in structure. The book presented contains more than a hundred Lakota verbs, conjugated in the singular and plural form. On the basis of these verbs the student gets a slight idea of how complicated it is to conjugate a Lakota verb in its correct form. In some cases, it seems, there are even two forms of conjugation for the same verb.
