Auch wenn er, aus respektvolle Zurückhaltung, die Rituale des Sonnentanzes und der Schwitzhütte selbst nicht filmt, so gelingt es ihm über Interviews mit Zeitzeugen eine Ahnung zu vermitteln, wie wichtig diese heiligen Zeremonien für das Überleben der Lakota sind.
Er zeigt die politische Situation der Lakota heute auf der Pine Ridge Reservation und berichtet über die Hintergründe.
Peter Schäfer ist Zeuge, als die Schwitzhütte von Chief Fools Crow von seinen Enkeln am alten Platz wieder aufgebaut wird und unterhält sich mit seinem Enkel Reinzol Last Horse und Archie Little, zwei Lakota-Ältesten. Desweiteren berichten Zeitzeugen über Wounded Knee und dem Aussterben der Sprache und der Traditionen.

In his outstanding takes, made in the years from 2001 to 2003 he portrays the spiritual life of the Lakota from the Pine Ridge Reservation. Even though he did not film the Sun Dance and the Sweat Lodge rituals themselves, for the reason of deep respect, his interviews with contemporaries still transfer a vague idea of the significance of these sacred ceremonies for the survival of the Lakota people. He points out the political situation of the Lakota people on the Pine Ridge Reservation today and refers to the backgrounds. He witnesses the rebuilding of Chief Fools Crow’s Sweat Lodge on its original site and talks with his grandson Reinzol Last Horse and Archie Little, two Lakota elders. Further more contemporaries talk about Wounded Knee and the extinction of the language and traditions.
